CIVIL SERVICE CLUB
Yearly Report (2016-17) of the Civil Services Club at Baselius College, Kottayam.
The Civil Services Club was a new initiative in Baselius College in the academic year 2016-2017. Prof. Viju Kurian was assigned the role of co-ordinating the club by the Principal Prof. Alexander V. George. This was to kindle an interest in the various careers within civil services as well as to provide motivation and guidance regarding the esteemed profession of IAS and related services in the Civil Services profile.
The club was unofficially inaugurated on June 29th, 2016 with an introductory class by Prof. Viju Kurian who introduced the purposes of the club, being motivational in its guidance rather than instructional. Around 20 students from various departments came to attend this function. A debate was assigned on the next class held on 22nd July, 2017 and many students actively responded to the much-relevant topic, Religion and Terrorism. Prof. Viju Kurian acted as the moderator.
Lecturer Nandu Parvathy Pradeep of the Department of English gave a class on the various career profiles within civil services with a powerpoint presentation prepared by her on 9th August, 2016. The class also listed out the action plan of the year.
Prof. Visakh who belonged to the MCA department of BCM college, as well as a civil services enthusiast, gave a motivational class to the club members on 29th August, 2016. The entertaining teacher delighted students and instilled in them a spark of enthusiasm for civil services.
Students were sent to a Civil Service Foundation class by Mr. Mohanachandran of VIAS Civil Services Academy, Kottayam on October 06th, 2016 at AIDA Hotel, Kottayam.
Students were sent to a “Chat with an IPS Officer” with a 2015 Batch Officer Mr. Safir Karim IPS, at DC Auditorium organized by Santhi Nikethan Kerala.
A meeting was organized with IPS Officer Mr. Sujithkumar Das, an assistant SP in training, at Mrs. Mappila Hall at 20th December, 2016 at 2pm in co-ordination with TRIADS academy, Kottayam. In spite of being a college strike day, 27 students attended the class.
A meeting and interaction with Mr. Unice R. Ismail, IAS, a 2014 Batch IAS officer posted at West Bengal at Dr. A.P. Mani Media Centre at 1.30pm on 30th January, 2017. This was co-ordinated with TRIADS Academy, Kottayam. More than 70 students attended the programme. The students heartily interacted with the officer who turned out to be a great motivational speaker.
Students were sent to an “All India Civil Services Talent Hunt Exam” on Sunday, 19th February, 2017 at Darsana IAS Academy.
The Civil Services Club was a new initiative, but it had a good start this year. It is heartening to see the enthusiasm of the students and the club is hopeful of taking good strides in this next academic year.
