International Yoga Day Celebrated

NSS unit of Baselius college organized International Yoga Day celebration on 21st June 2016.Mar Dionysius hall was chosen as the venue for the event.NSS volunteers worked hard to convert the regular and plain auditorium to a calming space where the yoga training session can be held.
The program started with the NSS song.NSS program officer Sany Mary Benjamin welcomed the gathering .Dr Jancy Thomas precided over the function . Chief guest, Chaithra Theresa John ,ASP, Kottayam district delivered the key note address. She remembered her teachers who taught her the significance of yoga training.
Mr .Shajudheen K.H,ASI, A .R camp, who is also the chief instructor at Kanthi yoga centre led the yoga training session.He started the session by chanting Om (pranava mantra) . Om was the first sound heard at the creation of universe. The sound of Om is supposed to unblock the throat chakra,which can lead to more attuned communication with others.
The session later progressed to a ten minute meditation guided by the narration of the instructor. Later the instructors introduced the students to the basic yoga techniques .
The yoga session was accompanied with soothing music in the background which made the ambience quite good. The session went on for one and a half hour . Prof.Thomas Kuruvilla ,NSS program officer thanked the instructors and expressed the gratitude of NSS unit by presenting token of appreciation. The instructors emphasized the importance of yoga in the modern stressful life. Yoga can act as a cleanser to detoxify the five elements of the body. They even invited the students for the daily yoga practice at the Kanthi yoga centre, Nagampadom.
The instructors were pleased to note that each and every one of the students participated in the training with much fervor.The students returned to their classes relaxed and refreshed.
